The painting pigments intended for wood use must bond strongly with the oil wood surface. Oil-based paints are popular with most people because of their durability and good covering properties. If the type of paint need is water-based, acrylic paints can also be used. Some pigments are designed to color the inner portions of wood and therefore enhance the wood anatomy without concealing it. Stains, dyes, or paints may be used by artists to pigment the outer surfaces of wood. Smooth or treated woods may need special primers as they do not easily accept paints
