Acrylic paints are made by pigmenting a polymer emulsion, which enables them to dry quickly. They are highly colored, opaque, and lightfast, meaning acrylic pigments can be used on canvas, wood, paper, and even plastic. Water can also be used to thin the paint allowing them to take on a more transparent quality, while thicker application results in the paint taking the form of an impasto texture.
