For artists, pigment palettes used for painting are very important instruments. These palettes come in a wide array of shapes, sizes, and materials. Traditional palettes are flat and usually plastic, wood, or ceramic, and have individual wells or compartments for different colors of pigments. There are some hinged palettes that are easier to carry to plein air painting locations.
